Purified glove box for energy research

Purified atmosphere glove box for physical chemistry work on actinides and fission products. Study of radionuclide migration and erosion of clay barriers in deep geological repositories.

More generally, the CIEMAT (Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research) in Madrid uses several Jacomex gloveboxes, including one that is over 30 years old and one that is 25 years old, which are still in very good working order, in which cutting-edge research is carried out on the following energies:

- Pore water chemistry and clay geochemistry, with a particular focus on clay barriers used in deep geological repositories for radioactive waste
- Properties of lead-lithium alloys (PbLi), used as cladding materials for tritium production in nuclear fusion reactors. Study of the solubility of hydrogen in alloys at 450°C, as a function of the atomic fraction of lithium, which is crucial for the design and safety of tritium production systems.
